Many people visit Tateyama Kurobe just to see the snow wall. The Snow Wall is located at <span style=\"color: #854300;\">Murodo<\/span>, the highest point of the Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route. During this period, the &#8220;Snow Wall Festival&#8221; is held. The more it snows, the higher the wall. Historically, the highest snow wall was 20 meters, recorded in 2000. In April 2017, the snow wall reached 19 meters, just 1 meter shorter than the historical record.<\/p>\n<picture><source srcset=\"https:\/\/www.travelclassroom.net\/eng\/wp-content\/uploads\/folder01\/Tateyama-Kurobe-Alpine-Route_Snow-Wall_01.webp\" type=\"image\/webp\" \/><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-33950\" src=\"https:\/\/www.travelclassroom.net\/eng\/wp-content\/uploads\/folder01\/Tateyama-Kurobe-Alpine-Route_Snow-Wall_01.jpg\" alt=\"Tateyama Kurobe Snow Wall\" width=\"620\" height=\"280\" \/><\/picture>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The highest snow wall in Snow Walls over the past three years was 13 meters in 2023, 14 meters in 2024, and increased to 16 meters in 2025 due to a once-in-a-decade heavy snowfall in February. However, it was still 4 meters lower than the historical high, and the impact was not as impressive as in previous years.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>This year, snowfall in the Hokuriku region of central Japan is less than last year, so the snow wall is expected to be no higher than last year&#8217;s 16 meters in 2026, estimated to be only around 14-15 meters.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>According to the latest data released by the official after the route opened, the maximum height of the Snow Corridor on <span style=\"color: #008000;\">April 15, 2026<\/span> is only <span style=\"font-weight: bold; font-size: 20px; color: #800080;\">12 meters<\/span>, which is lower than expected.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>On average, the height of the Snow Walls decreases by approximately 0.5 meters per week. Other popular activities include the Panorama Road (<span style=\"color: #854300;\">Panorama Road<\/span>), which offers a bird&#8217;s-eye view of the snow wall, and the Snow Corridor (<span style=\"color: #854300;\">Yuki no Kairo<\/span>).<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>In addition to the main events that are held every year, there will be two new events starting in 2024. One is a snow play area (\u30e6\u30ad\uff01\u3075\u308c\u3042\u3044\u5e83\u5834), which will be open from April 15th to May 6th, 10:00 to 15:00. The other is a rest chair that is only available during Japan&#8217;s Golden Week holidays (\u7acb\u5c71\u30e6\u30ad\u30c6\u30e9\u30b9), which will be open from April 20th to April 24th, 10:00 to 15:00. I visited the main snow wall, which was 19 meters high, and also explored the Snow Corridor.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3 id=\"part1\" style=\"text-align: center; color: #993300;\">Walking Through the Snow Otani<\/h3>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The entrance to the Snow Wall is next to the rest area on the 1st floor of Murodo Station.<\/p>\n<picture><source srcset=\"https:\/\/www.travelclassroom.net\/eng\/wp-content\/uploads\/folder01\/Murodo_16.webp\" type=\"image\/webp\" \/><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-33926\" src=\"https:\/\/www.travelclassroom.net\/eng\/wp-content\/uploads\/folder01\/Murodo_16.jpg\" alt=\"Tateyama Kurobe Snow Otani\" width=\"620\" height=\"500\" \/><\/picture>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Visiting the Snow Wall is free, and no ticket is required. The highest point of the snow wall is located at the end of this section, so there&#8217;s no need to stop for photos at the beginning. The Snow Wall is open daily from 9:30 AM to 3:00 PM.
