Myeong-dong is the preferred location for many tourists to stay in Seoul. I personally prefer to stay in the hotels in Myeong-dong. The Myeongdong shopping district is mainly consist of the area surrounded by Toegye-ro (south), Samil-daero (east), Euliji-ro (north) and Sogong-ro (west).
Geographically, Myeong-dong is located in the middle of Namsan, Namdaemun Market, Seoul City Hall, Insadong and Dongdaemun, and not far from tourist attractions such as Namsan Cable Car, Namdaemun Market, Deoksugung Palace, Insadong, etc.. There are two subway stations in Myeong-dong, one is the Myeongdong Station (station number 424) which is the station of Seoul Subway Line No. 4. The another one is the Euljiro 1-ga Station (station number 202) which is the station of Seoul Subway Line No. 2. So the transportation of Myeong-dong is very convenient.

Economy Hotels in Myeong-dong (Hostel and Guesthouse)
If you want to save some money on accommodation, you may also consider staying at the economy hotels, that’s called hostel or guesthouse. Hostel and guesthouse are generally located in relatively remote locations where rents are less expensive, and transportation may be slightly inconvenient. Transportation between Incheon Airport and Myeongdong
1. AREX Airport Express
There are two methods of transportation you can use when you come from Incheon Airport to Myeong-dong. The first one is to take the AREX Airport Express (Railway) to Seoul Station and then take a taxi or subway to Myeongdong. However, the distance from AREX station to the subway station at Seoul Station is a bit far and inconvenient.
However, some hotels have partnerships with AREX, such as Skypark Hotel Myeongdong, Lotte City Hotels Myeongdong, Royal Hotel Seoul, etc. If you stay in these hotels, you can take the free shuttle bus from Seoul Station to the hotel.
The schedule of AREX is approximately every half an hour. The journey from Incheon Airport to Seoul Station is approximately 45 minutes. So it will take about 1.5 hours to arrive in Myeong-dong.
The regular ticket price of AREX is 14,800 KRW, but it was sold at a discounted fare of 9,000 KRW, which is approximately 40% cheaper than the current fare of the airport bus. Moreover, AREX has introduced a number of different discounted fares, such as group discounts of 3 or more people, discounts on Korail Pass or KTX ticket holders, cooperative airline ticket holders. The cheapest AREX’s ticket can be bought in two travel website called KKday and Klook, the fare for adult is only 6,600 KRW.
If you purchase the AREX ticket at KKday or Klook, you will receive a voucher. You must exchange the AREX ticket in the Traveler Center in Incheon Airport (if you take AREX from Incheon Airport to Seoul Station) or Seoul Station (if you take AREX from Seoul Station to Incheon Airport).
In addition to exchange the ticket in the Traveler Center, you can also issue the ticket by yourself in the self-service ticket machine outside the station gate. When purchase or exchange the AREX ticket, you will receive a paper ticket with the train number and seat number. In addition to the paper ticket, you also need a magnetic card to enter the station gate. You need to pay 500 KRW deposit for this magnetic card and the deposit can be returned after you leave the AREX station in destination.
The procedure of issuing ticket and the magnetic card in the self-service ticket machine is not complicated. Simply select the language first, then click on “Exchange Ticket”, enter the voucher number, select the destination station (Seoul Station or Incheon Airport Station), choose the time of train and finally put the 500 KRW deposit into the machine. Then you will receive the paper ticket and the magnetic card to enter the gate.
Concerning the exchange of AREX ticket, the following points need to be noticed:
- You can only exchange the AREX ticket for the current day, so it’s generally exchanged before ride.
- The seat number is automatically assigned by the system and cannot be selected by yourself.
The deposit refund machine is just located outside the gate. You only need to insert the magnetic card and then you will be refunded the 500 KRW deposit.

Tips: Elevator location in Myeongdong subway station
If you are taking AREX to Seoul Station and then take the subway to Myeongdong station, you should pay attention to the elevator location in Myeongdong subway station. There is a lift in exit No. 1 of Myeongdong station and there are escalators in exit No. 3 and No. 7 and there are only stairs in other exits. So if you have large luggage, you should use exit No. 1, No. 3 or No. 7.
Exit No. 1 and No. 3 of Myeongdong subway station are located on the south side of Toegye-ro, so if you are staying at a hotel on this side, such as Seoul Prince Hotel, Seoul Pacific Hotel, you can use these two exit. In addition, there is a zebra crossing just beside exit No. 1, so even if you are staying in a hotel on the north side of Toegye-ro, you can also use exit No. 1.
If you don’t want to cross the road, you can use the exit No. 7.
Since exit No. 1 and No. 7 are located on different sides of Myeongdong subway station and they are not connected each other within the subway station, so after getting off the train, please stop and look at the signs to find the correct exit direction. In addition, from the subway platform to the subway station lobby there is one floor that only equiped with stairs, no elevator or escalator, so from the platform to the ground, you must go stairs in this floor. If your luggage is heavy, it will be harder.
2. Airport Limousine
The second means of transportation from Incheon Airport to Myeong-dong is to take the Airport Limousine. This is the most convenient and direct way to transport between Incheon Airport and Myeong-dong.
The current adult fare of Airport Limousine from Incheon Airport to Myeongdong is 15,000 won. If you purchase a ticket in advance at the counter in the airport building before boarding, it will be 14,000 won. If you do not purchase a ticket in advance, you can use this 1,000 won coupon to get 1,000 won discount. When you use this coupon, pass the coupon together with the 14,000 won cash to the driver when you boarding the bus. In addition, if you use the T-Money card to pay the fare, you will also get a 1,000 won discount.
There are several Airport Limousine routes connect Incheon Airport and Seoul downtown. The Airport Limousine to Myeong-dong is route No. 6015. In addition, the Airport Limousine route No. 6001 that go to Dongdaemun will also stop at Myeong-dong station. The journey from Incheon Airport to Myeongdong is approximately 80 minutes. The schedule of Airport Limousine is quite frequent. Generally, it takes up to 10-15 minutes to get on the bus.
