Universal Club (Clubユニバーサル | Club Universal) is the membership program of Universal Studios Japan. Previously, purchasing tickets or Express Passes on the official USJ website required registering for a Universal Club membership. However, starting in 2025, the official website now accepts non-member purchases, so registering for a membership is no longer mandatory.

 

That said, purchasing tickets as a Universal Club member on the official USJ website comes with exclusive benefits, such as access to birthday discount tickets and 4th Birthday Invitation discount tickets.

 

If you wish to register for a Universal Club membership, follow the steps below.

Adding family members to your account allows you to purchase birthday discount tickets for their birthdays, provided the birthday person is included in the visiting group. Family member details require only four pieces of information: name, date of birth, gender, and relationship. You can add up to 6 family members, including 1 spouse and 5 other relatives.

2. Purchasing Universal Studios Japan Birthday Discount Tickets

 

One of the main benefits of becoming a Universal Studios Japan member (Universal Club member) is access to birthday discount tickets during your birthday month.

 

Birthday discount tickets come in two types: Birthday 1-Day Pass (バースデー・1デイ・パス) and Birthday 2-Day Pass (バースデー・2デイ・パス). Prices are dynamic, similar to regular 1-day and 2-day passes. The adult price for the Birthday 1-Day Pass starts at 8,100 yen, while the child price (ages 4–11) starts at 5,300 yen. The adult price for the Birthday 2-Day Pass starts at 15,300 yen, and the child price starts at 10,000 yen. These prices represent approximately a 6% discount compared to regular tickets—saving 500 yen for adults on the 1-Day Pass and 1,000 yen on the 2-Day Pass, or 300 yen and 600 yen for children, respectively.

 

Birthday discount tickets can only be purchased on the official USJ website using a Universal Club membership account; they are not available on other ticketing platforms. The membership account holder or a registered family member must have a birthday falling in the same month as the ticket date or the previous month. For example, if your birthday is September 20, you can purchase birthday discount tickets for dates between September 1 and October 31. What are experience times?

 

To manage crowd levels, entry times must be selected for “Super Nintendo World” and “Harry Potter’s Wizarding World,” as well as for certain popular attractions. However, you cannot freely choose individual time slots for each attraction. Instead, you select a predefined “experience time” package, which includes fixed entry times for the two themed areas and specific attractions. These packages cannot be customized.

 

Note: Universal Express Pass Premium does not require selecting experience times, and Steps 2 to 4 differ slightly for this pass. Tickets and Express Passes purchased online (including through the USJ website) are typically issued as e-tickets. To enter the park or access attractions, simply scan the QR code on your e-ticket. There are two ways to use e-tickets: printing them or displaying them on your mobile device.

 

Note: Although Universal Studios Japan has an official mobile app, the USJ app cannot store or display e-tickets for admission or Express Passes.

You can print your e-tickets on A4 paper, ensuring the QR codes are clear and intact. Each ticket requires one printout. For example, if two people purchase two admission tickets and two Express Passes, you will need four printed e-tickets.

 

To enter Universal Studios Osaka, scan the QR code on your printed e-ticket at the gate. No need to queue at the ticket booth. For Express Pass attractions, staff will scan your QR code with a handheld device. Once scanned, the system will mark the attraction as “used,” and you cannot reuse the pass for the same attraction.

 

Similarly, QR codes may be scanned for entry into “Super Nintendo World” and “Harry Potter’s Wizarding World.” If scanned, the system will record your entry, and re-entry after leaving may not be permitted.

 

2. Using Mobile E-Tickets

 

Instead of printing, you can display e-tickets on your mobile device. To access QR codes, log in to your USJ member account via a mobile browser and navigate to your tickets. Purchased tickets and Express Passes will display their QR codes.

However, QR codes on the webpage require an internet connection. If you’re not using a pocket WiFi or Japanese SIM card, you may lose connectivity inside the park. To avoid this, take screenshots of your QR codes while online and save them to your photo gallery for offline use.
