Hong Kong Ferris Wheel Experience, Opening Hours, Tickets & MTR Exit Walking Route

The Hong Kong Ferris Wheel has become one of Hong Kong’s landmarks! The Hong Kong Observation Wheel, which opened in December 2014, is situated next to the Central Ferry Piers in Hong Kong. With the famous Victoria Harbour on one side and the high-rises of Central on the other, it indeed creates a perfect backdrop for photos.

The area around the Ferris wheel has now been developed into the AIA Vitality Park, becoming a major venue for events during holidays, such as the “AIA Carnival” held here annually from Christmas through Lunar New Year.

Hong Kong Observation Wheel: Opening Hours, Experience & Photos from Different Angles

The Hong Kong Observation Wheel opens relatively late, so it’s not advisable to go too early. It’s recommended to visit in the afternoon. Opening hours differ on weekdays versus weekends and public holidays, with weekends and holidays opening one hour earlier and closing one hour later. Here are the operating hours for the Hong Kong Observation Wheel:

  • Monday to Thursday: 12:00 PM – 10:00 PM
  • Friday to Sunday, Public Holidays and Their Eve: 11:00 AM – 11:00 PM

This Hong Kong Observation Wheel is only 60 meters tall, appearing somewhat small compared to the surrounding skyscrapers. However, photos taken from the bottom looking up still convey a sense of grandeur.

The on-site ticket booths are designed to look like Ferris wheel cabins.

When it first opened in 2014, the adult ticket price was HK$100, with children and seniors paying HK$70, which wasn’t great value. However, after AIA took over operations, ticket prices were significantly reduced. The current adult ticket is only HK$20, with children and seniors paying just HK$10, making it a fantastic deal.

Hong Kong Ferris Wheel Tickets

The Ferris wheel has approximately six boarding/alighting points.

The cabins are not very spacious; they can hold a maximum of eight people but usually accommodate only six. (Note: Besides single tickets, private cabin tickets are available for HK$160, accommodating up to 8 people. With exactly 8 people, the cost per person is HK$20, the same as a single ticket. With fewer people, you pay a bit more for private space.)

Since the Ferris wheel is only 60 meters high and surrounded by tall buildings, the views are largely blocked, making the scenery not much different from what you’d see from a regular building or ground level.

As there isn’t anything particularly special, one rotation would be sufficient. However, it turns out you need to complete three full rotations before you can exit. Due to the Ferris wheel’s intermittent stops and starts, the three rotations took a full 25 minutes. (Note: This was the operating procedure during our ride; it’s unclear if the number of rotations has been reduced now.)
