【Hong Kong Accommodation Recommendation】Hong Kong Royal Plaza Hotel: Convenient Location, Spacious Rooms
Royal Plaza Hotel is my favorite hotel to stay at when traveling to Hong Kong, having stayed there four to five times in total. The main reasons I enjoy staying at the Royal Plaza Hotel are, first, its convenient location, and second, its exceptionally large rooms, coupled with excellent decor and design.

1. Location and Transportation of Hong Kong Royal Plaza Hotel
Royal Plaza Hotel is located on Prince Edward Road West in Kowloon, facing Mong Kok Stadium and the Mong Kok Flower Market. The hotel is connected to the Mong Kok East MTR station via the Grand Century Place mall. Passing through the mall from the hotel leads directly to the bustling streets of Mong Kok. Additionally, it is close to three MTR (Mass Transit Railway) stations: Mong Kok East Station, Mong Kok Station, and Prince Edward Station, making transportation extremely convenient. It is an ideal accommodation choice in Hong Kong for those who enjoy lively areas and shopping.
The closest MTR station to the Royal Plaza Hotel is Mong Kok East Station. Exit D of the station is located inside Grand Century Place. After exiting from Exit D, turning around and walking straight a short distance leads to the side door connecting the Royal Plaza Hotel and Grand Century Place. Mong Kok East Station is a stop on the East Rail Line, making it very convenient if coming from Lo Wu/Lok Ma Chau without needing to transfer. If coming from the airport via MTR, it requires three transfers: at Tsing Yi, Nam Cheong, and Hung Hom. Traveling from the Sheung Wan Macau Ferry Pier also requires three transfers: at Admiralty, Tsim Sha Tsui, and Hung Hom. However, the transfer at Tsim Sha Tsui involves a bit of walking to reach the East Tsim Sha Tsui Station, which can be tiring. Therefore, if you don’t have too much luggage, you could also take the train directly to Mong Kok Station and walk to the hotel.

Mong Kok East Station Exit D

Exiting Mong Kok East Station Exit D leads directly to the lobby of Grand Century Place, Mong Kok.

Walking straight along the passage next to the MTR station leads to the side door connecting the Royal Plaza Hotel and Grand Century Place.

On one side of the side door is the entrance to the hotel restaurant (top image), the other side leads to the hotel lobby (bottom image).

The Royal Plaza Hotel provides a complimentary shuttle bus service between the hotel and Tsim Sha Tsui’s The Sun Arcade, with stops at Prince Edward MTR Station and Elements mall. However, the shuttle bus runs approximately only every half hour.

Besides Mong Kok East Station, the Royal Plaza Hotel is also not far from Mong Kok Station and Prince Edward Station. The walking distance from these two MTR stations to the Royal Plaza Hotel is similar, both around 600-700 meters.
The map below, displayed inside Mong Kok MTR Station, shows the area around the station. The center of the map is Mong Kok Station, the heart of Mong Kok. The lower left corner is Grand Century Place; passing through it leads to the Royal Plaza Hotel. The line connecting Mong Kok Station and Grand Century Place represents the footbridge.

The closest exit from Mong Kok MTR Station to Grand Century Place and the Royal Plaza Hotel is Exit B3.

After exiting to street level via B3, you can reach Grand Century Place via Sai Yeung Choi Street South and Bute Street, or you can take the footbridge and walk all the way to Grand Century Place.

The footbridge leads directly to Grand Century Place.

Taking the street level route is more lively.

If walking at street level, you can use this entrance at the western end of Bute Street, then cross a footbridge to reach Grand Century Place.

After passing through the Grand Century Place lobby towards the Mong Kok East Station exit, walking straight ahead leads to the side door connecting the Royal Plaza Hotel and the mall.

Walking from the Royal Plaza Hotel to Mong Kok or Prince Edward follows the same route: after passing through the Grand Century Place lobby, follow the signs to the footbridge or Bute Street.

II. Environment and Facilities of Royal Plaza Hotel Hong Kong
The full view of the Royal Plaza Hotel is best captured from Prince Edward Road West. However, as we didn’t pass by there this time, no frontal photos were taken. Here’s a Google Street View image for reference.

Due to the topography, the hotel’s main entrance is on the second-floor podium, not at street level.

It was the eve of the Lunar New Year during our stay, and the hotel lobby was being decorated with peach blossoms.

The hotel lobby isn’t very large, but it’s designed to be quite bright.

The Royal Plaza Hotel has facilities like restaurants, a lounge, and a swimming pool, though we didn’t use them during this stay.
III. Rooms at Royal Plaza Hotel Hong Kong
We originally booked a Plaza Grand Suite, but at check-in, the hotel upgraded us to a Royal Club Deluxe Suite on the top executive floor. Actually, there isn’t much difference between the Plaza Grand and Royal Club Deluxe suites. Both are 33 square meters, and the design and decor are quite similar. The main advantages of the Royal Club Deluxe are complimentary access to the executive lounge on the club floor and better views due to the higher floor.

The hotel building is long, with over 60 guest rooms per floor.

Hotels in Japan are typically around 20 square meters, so the 33-square-meter room at the Royal Plaza feels very spacious in comparison.

With 33 square meters, the bed is naturally large too—a King Size bed measuring 1.8m x 2.0m.

The room also features a stylishly designed desk and a single genuine leather sofa chair.

The view from the room faces Prince Edward Road West, overlooking Mong Kok Stadium and the Flower Market.

To match the room’s size, the television is also quite large.

The room also includes a small bar counter.

In addition to the electric kettle and the beverages in the fridge (charged separately), there is also a Nespresso coffee machine offering two free cups of coffee.

With the room being 33 square meters, the toilet and bathroom are naturally spacious as well. The bathroom is separated from the bedroom by a glass wall, which can be covered with an electric blind.

There’s a TV installed in front of the bathtub, allowing you to watch TV while bathing.

In addition to the bathtub, there is also a shower stall—take your pick.

Bathroom sink and amenities

The wardrobe is located in the room’s entrance area; it’s not very large but sufficient.

Besides hangers and bathrobes, the wardrobe also contains an iron, ironing board, safe, slippers, and other amenities.

There are plenty of power sockets throughout the room, including USB ports, so you can charge your phone even if you didn’t bring a plug adapter. The room also comes with a universal adapter, so it’s no problem even if your plug isn’t the Hong Kong standard three-prong rectangular type.

The digital alarm clock on the bedside table also supports iPhone charging.

Finally, let’s talk about the internet. All rooms have wireless WiFi access. You just need to enter your room number and the English surname of the person who checked in to get online. The speed is average.

Besides WiFi, there is also a cable for laptops without WiFi capability to access the internet.

IV. Summary of Staying at Royal Plaza Hotel Hong Kong
Royal Plaza Hotel (Royal Plaza Hotel) is a hotel in Hong Kong that has been operating for quite some time. However, due to a comprehensive renovation in recent years and good maintenance, the hotel lobby and rooms are very clean and new. The decor and materials used are quite high-end, making it feel like a new hotel. As it was built earlier, the room size at Royal Plaza Hotel is significantly larger than that of newly opened boutique hotels in recent years, which is one of its attractive selling points.
Additionally, the location of Royal Plaza Hotel is also a great advantage. Although it is not located in the very center of Mong Kok’s bustling city area, the hotel is not far from the central area of Mong Kok and is close to three MTR stations. Therefore, it is very convenient whether you are shopping in Mong Kok or taking the MTR to other places. It is definitely one of the highly recommended accommodation choices in Hong Kong.
