1. Hotel Location & Transportation
Namba Oriental Hotel is located at the intersection of Namba’s Nankai-dori and Sennichimae-dori shopping streets. It is only about 200 meters from the Nankai Electric Railway Namba Station, a 3-minute walk, and only about 300 meters from the Namba subway station. Transportation is very convenient whether traveling to and from Kansai Airport or to various places within the city. Its location is even better than that of Cross Hotel Osaka and Holiday Inn Osaka Namba located in Dotonbori.
Since our flight from Osaka back to Macau departed in the afternoon, we usually go to Kuromon Market to buy fruit on the last day in Osaka, and after lunch, take the Nankai Electric Railway to the airport. Besides being close to Nankai Namba Station, Kuromon Market is also only about 300 meters away, a 4-minute walk, making Namba Oriental Hotel’s location very advantageous for this day’s itinerary.
Additionally, Namba Oriental Hotel is also very close to Shinsaibashi and Dotonbori, only about 300 meters away. The entire Shinsaibashi and Namba area is a pedestrian shopping district, making the area around the hotel very lively, with numerous restaurants and shops.
Nankai Electric Railway Namba Station, which is also the largest shopping mall in Namba, with Takashimaya Department Store located underground.

When you come out of Nankai Namba Station and reach the crosswalk, you will see Nankai-dori. Go straight for 150 meters and you’ll find Namba Oriental Hotel.

The Sennichimae pedestrian street below the hotel.

Heading north along Sennichimae pedestrian street for about 300 meters leads to Dotonbori and Shinsaibashi.

Going straight west from the hotel along a small street for about 300 meters leads to Kuromon Market.

2. Hotel Environment & Facilities
Main entrance to Namba Oriental Hotel.

The entrance and lobby of Namba Oriental Hotel have a somewhat nostalgic style reminiscent of hotels from the 1960s and 70s. Although I don’t particularly like this style, I don’t strongly dislike it either.

The hotel lobby is located on the third floor of the building. You need to take the elevator from the ground floor entrance lobby to go up.

The elevator design also has a retro feel.

Hotel Lobby.

Guest rooms are on the fourth floor and above. The elevator to the guest room floors is next to the lobby; you need to insert your key card to open the metal gate and enter the elevator lobby.

Update: The hotel lobby and facilities have been renovated. The current design is more modern, and self-service lockers have been added, allowing guests to handle luggage storage themselves before check-in or after check-out.
There is an indoor garden on the fourth floor of the hotel building. You can come here to relax if you have time.

The elevator lobbies and corridors on the guest room floors have a different style from the main lobby, feeling more modern.

There is an ice-making room like this on each floor, but it doesn’t seem necessary to use ice.

3. Hotel Room
Floor plan of the hotel guest room floors. One of the advantages of Namba Oriental Hotel is its relatively large room sizes. We stayed in the smallest Oriental Queen double room, which still has an area of 23 square meters, quite spacious.

Fortunately, the room design is only slightly retro with the door handle; the interior decor doesn’t have the nostalgic feel of the hotel lobby.

Although the hotel was built some time ago, the bedroom is well-maintained, and the design and decor are acceptable.

Although the room is well-maintained, signs of age are visible on the lighting control panel by the bedside table.

The room size is quite large compared to other hotels, with enough space for an armchair and a coffee table.

Although the room faces the street, there isn’t much of a view outside the window.

The only aspect of Namba Oriental Hotel that I wasn’t very satisfied with is the bathroom. Firstly, I’m not too fond of this bathroom design with the sink and tiled floor. Secondly, the stains on the bathroom tiles can make those who are particular about cleanliness feel a bit uncomfortable.

Although more and more Japanese hotels now offer free WiFi in their rooms, Namba Oriental Hotel still did not have WiFi. Fortunately, I had brought a mini router with me, so I could plug it in and convert the hotel’s free wired internet into WiFi.

Update: The hotel rooms have been renovated. Although the design is largely the same, they are now newer. Additionally, the hotel rooms now offer free WiFi.
