Cross Hotel Osaka – The Only Hotel I’ve Stayed at Five Times! What’s the Appeal?
Cross Hotel Osaka(Cross Hotel Osaka) was the first hotel I stayed at in Japan, and it remains the only Japanese hotel I’ve stayed at five times. The primary reason I like Cross Hotel Osaka is its superb location, incredibly convenient for shopping in the Shinsaibashi and Namba areas. Additionally, the hotel’s interior design is very fashionable, making it a comfortable place to stay. The fact that I chose to stay here on five separate trips to Osaka speaks volumes – Cross Hotel Osaka is definitely one of the top recommended accommodations in Osaka.

Cross Hotel Osaka opened in 2006. It was awarded Japan’s Best Hotel in 2009 by TripAdvisor and was consecutively selected as a Michelin two-star hotel for three years, making it very popular among foreign tourists with high online ratings. However, after being acquired by the Japanese group Orix Hotels & Resorts, guest ratings for Cross Hotel Osaka have gradually declined, particularly in the service and facilities categories. The location score, however, remains high, indicating that the excellent location of Cross Hotel Osaka is still its biggest selling point.

1. Transport from Kansai Airport to Cross Hotel Osaka
(1) Taking the Nankai Electric Railway
To get from Kansai Airport to Cross Hotel Osaka, you can take the Nankai Electric Railway directly from the airport to Nankai Namba Station, which is near the hotel. The journey takes about 35 minutes. However, it’s about 700 meters from Namba Station to Cross Hotel Osaka, taking about 7-8 minutes on foot. The map below shows the walking route from Nankai Namba Station to Cross Hotel Osaka. After exiting the station from the North Exit, cross the street and enter the Ebisubashi-suji Shopping Street ahead. Go straight, cross Ebisubashi Bridge, turn left, and the building on your right at the end of the street is Cross Hotel Osaka.

Besides taking the surface route via Ebisubashi-suji, you can also use the underground shopping arcade to get from Nankai Namba Station to Cross Hotel Osaka. After exiting the ticket gates at the North Exit of Nankai Namba Station, there is a somewhat hidden elevator next to the Uniqlo on the left. This elevator goes to the 1F (ground level) of Namba City and also directly to the B1F level connected to the underground arcade. To go to Cross Hotel via the underground arcade, first follow the signs towards Kintetsu Station. When you reach the crossroads at the Kintetsu Station entrance, continue towards the ‘ekim north’ direction, and you will see the entrance to Namba HIPS. Entering Namba HIPS allows you to use the escalators or elevator to reach street level.

However, there is still a short distance between Namba HIPS and Cross Hotel Osaka. If the weather is good, you can walk via Midosuji Avenue. If the weather is bad, you can turn into Ebisubashi-suji Shopping Street. During cold winter days or rain, taking the underground arcade is more comfortable, but it can be harder to navigate. Also, both the surface and underground routes are usually very crowded, so walking can be quite tiring.
(2) Taking the Airport Limousine Bus
Besides the Nankai Railway, you can also take the Airport Limousine Bus from Kansai Airport to Cross Hotel Osaka. There are two bus stops relatively close to the hotel: one is the Namba OCAT Bus Terminal, and the other is in front of the Hotel Nikko Osaka. The bus frequency between Kansai Airport and OCAT is higher, while there are only two daily bus services to Hotel Nikko Osaka. From OCAT to Cross Hotel Osaka, you can go via the underground arcade; the distance is similar to walking from Nankai Namba Station.
2. Subway
Cross Hotel Osaka is located between Namba Station and Shinsaibashi Station on the subway line. It’s closer to Namba Station, only about 200 meters away. From the main entrance, turn left towards Namba and it’s a 2-minute walk to the subway entrance, though this particular entrance only has stairs. Right next to this street-level entrance is Namba HIPS; if you prefer not to use stairs, you can take the escalators inside Namba HIPS to access the subway station. Shinsaibashi Station is slightly farther, but still only about 400 meters away. Walk along the Shinsaibashi pedestrian street towards the Daimaru department store for about 5 minutes to reach the subway entrance located within Daimaru. You can use the escalators inside the department store, but note that this entrance cannot be used after Daimaru closes.
3. Kintetsu and Hanshin Railways
Next to the subway Namba Station are the Namba terminals for Kintetsu Railway and Hanshin Electric Railway. Kintetsu trains can take you to Nara, Wakayama, Nagoya, Ise, and other places, while Hanshin trains go to Kobe. So basically, from Cross Hotel Osaka, getting to anywhere in Kansai is very convenient.
Facilities and Environment of Cross Hotel Osaka
Cross Hotel Osaka is a business hotel, so it doesn’t have an extensive range of facilities. The main facilities are one restaurant and one bar located within the hotel.
The red glass main entrance of Cross Hotel Osaka facing Midosuji has a bit of a nightclub feel in the evening.

Previously, Cross Hotel Osaka had an automated parking garage, with the entrance in the small alley to the right of the main entrance. Parking cost 2,500 yen per night due to the high land prices in the area, and short-term parking was available in 30-minute increments. However, the hotel’s parking garage has now closed for other uses, but cooperative parking lots nearby can be used.

Guest Rooms at Cross Hotel Osaka
Having stayed at Cross Hotel Osaka on four separate occasions, I’ve experienced the semi-double, double, and twin rooms, and stayed in rooms in different locations. Because the room layouts vary slightly depending on their position in the building, the furnishings can differ.
This is the semi-double room from my first stay in 2007. Semi-double rooms are located on the side facing Shinsaibashisuji, so the windows look out at the walls of other buildings, with no street view.

I stayed in a double room during my visits in both 2010 and 2013. The double room faced Midosuji, so I could enjoy views of the main street from the room.

This is the double room from my 2010 stay. The room layout is quite square and spacious, much larger than the semi-double room. Besides the large double bed, the room also had a sofa and a small round table.

The double room I stayed in during 2013 was located on a corner section protruding towards the main street. The room layout was not square, so the arrangement was different from the 2010 room. Also, the noise from vehicles on Midosuji was more noticeable.

During my stays in 2010 and 2013, my family stayed in a twin room.

I also stayed in a semi-double room in 2014. This time, the room was on a higher floor. Although it also faced the Shinsaibashi-suji side, the view wasn’t blocked by other building facades, and I could still see the street scene.

A distinctive feature of Cross Hotel Osaka’s rooms, besides the pure white large bed, is the bathroom, which is much larger than those in typical business hotels. The design and layout of the bathroom are basically the same across different room types.

Other basic amenities in the room.
With the widespread adoption of WiFi, Japanese hotels have started offering free WiFi service in recent years. During my most recent stay at Cross Hotel Osaka, I found that the hotel had installed a free WiFi network. There was an instruction manual in the room; you just need to select the hotel’s WiFi signal and enter the password from the manual to use the free WiFi internet.
Cross Hotel Osaka Stay Summary
Cross Hotel Osaka has an overall guest rating of 5 points (out of 5) on Rakuten Travel. It scored a perfect 5 in four categories: Location, Room, Bathroom, and Food Quality. Only Service and Facilities scored slightly lower, at 4.5 and 4 points respectively. The lower score for Facilities is because the hotel doesn’t have many facilities, which might not be ideal for travelers wanting to spend the whole day relaxing at the hotel.
