La’gent Stay Sapporo Odori: Another Recommended Hotel in Sapporo’s Tanukikoji
During my trip to Hokkaido this summer, I stayed at La’gent Stay Sapporo Odori, located near Tanukikoji. The hotel’s Japanese name is ラ・ジェント・ステイ札幌大通, and its English name is La’gent Stay Sapporo Odori. La’gent Stay Sapporo Odori is a relatively new hotel in the Tanukikoji area and was one of the most anticipated hotels to stay in after the Richmond Hotel Sapporo Odori.

1. Location and Transportation of La’gent Stay Sapporo Odori
La’gent Stay Sapporo Odori is not located inside the Tanukikoji Shopping Street but is situated on Minami 2-jo Nishi 5-chome, parallel to the shopping street. Since it’s not inside the shopping street, the hotel’s location is not as convenient as the Richmond Hotel Sapporo Odori, which opens directly onto the covered shopping arcade. However, this is only a slight inconvenience on rainy days. If the weather is good, the difference is minimal as it’s just one street away. From the main entrance of La’gent Stay Sapporo Odori, cross a pedestrian crossing and walk about 80 meters to reach the middle section of Tanukikoji Shopping Street, between the bustling 4-chome and 5-chome areas.

Main Entrance of La’gent Stay Sapporo Odori

The street outside La’gent Stay Sapporo Odori on Minami 2-jo Nishi is the same street that faces the main entrance of the Richmond Hotel, except the Richmond Hotel is in 4-chome, and La’gent Stay is in 5-chome.

From the main entrance of La’gent Stay Sapporo Odori, cross the pedestrian crossing and walk a few steps forward to reach the junction of Tanukikoji Shopping Street’s 4-chome and 5-chome.

La’gent Stay Sapporo Odori is not far from the Richmond Hotel located in Tanukikoji 4-chome.

This year, upon visiting Sapporo, I noticed that the Don Quijote in Tanukikoji has relocated. It moved from its original location in Tanukikoji 3-chome to a spot next to the Richmond Hotel in Tanukikoji 4-chome. The new store is also smaller. It’s unclear whether this is a temporary move due to renovations at the original site or a permanent relocation.

Taking the escalator down outside the Don Quijote entrance leads you to the Pole Town underground walkway. Walking about 200 meters along this walkway brings you to Susukino Subway Station. It’s only about 300 meters to Odori Station. The walkway also connects to the Sapporo Ekimae-dori Underground Walkway, allowing you to walk all the way to Sapporo Station.

Getting to La’gent Stay Sapporo Odori from New Chitose Airport
There are two ways to get to La’gent Stay Sapporo Odori from New Chitose Airport. The first is to take the airport bus to the Odori area and then walk to the hotel. The second is to take the JR train to Sapporo Station, then transfer to the subway to Susukino Station (すすきの), and walk to the hotel. Of these two options, taking the airport bus is more direct, involves a shorter walking distance, and is cheaper than the JR + subway combination.
The nearest bus stop to La’gent Stay Sapporo Odori for the New Chitose Airport Bus within Sapporo is near the Hotel Resol Trinity Sapporo (ホテルリソルトリニティ札幌). The walking distance from there to La’gent Stay Sapporo Odori is about 300 meters. For detailed information, please refer to the Hokuto Kotsu website.
Getting to New Chitose Airport from La’gent Stay Sapporo Odori
Similarly, there are two ways to get to New Chitose Airport from La’gent Stay Sapporo Odori. The first is to take the airport bus, and the second is to take the JR train from Sapporo Station to New Chitose Airport. If you choose to take the JR from Sapporo Station, you can first take the subway from Susukino Station (すすきの) to Sapporo Station and then transfer to the JR. However, since the walking distance to Susukino Station isn’t very short, and taking the subway with luggage can be troublesome, I personally prefer walking with my luggage along the Pole Town underground walkway and the Sapporo Ekimae-dori Underground Walkway all the way to Sapporo Station. There are shops along the way, so if you have time, walking while browsing doesn’t feel tiresome. If your flight is in the afternoon, this can be your final activity in Sapporo.
If you prefer a more direct route or don’t want to walk too much, you can take the airport bus from a bus stop near the hotel to New Chitose Airport. The nearest airport bus boarding point to La’gent Stay Sapporo Odori within Sapporo was previously located opposite the Hotel Sunroute New Sapporo, right between Tanukikoji 5-chome and 6-chome, only about 100 meters from La’gent Stay Sapporo Odori, which was very convenient. (Update: Hotel Sunroute New Sapporo has closed down, and the bus stops for buses from central Sapporo to New Chitose Airport have been changed. The nearest boarding point to La’gent Stay Sapporo Odori is now at Susukino (Minami 4, Nishi 3), about a 450-meter walk from the hotel. For detailed information, please refer to the Hokuto Kotsu website.)

The airport bus fare can be paid directly when boarding, or you can purchase tickets at the front desk of Hotel Sunroute New Sapporo on the day of travel.

II. Environment and Facilities of La’gent Stay Sapporo Odori
La’gent Stay Sapporo Odori has a distinctive design. The hotel lobby and public areas feature many old photographs and items on the walls, giving the hotel a cultural vibe.
Hotel Lobby

There is a small bar next to the lobby where free coffee is served daily from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM.

There is also a lounge space on the second floor where guests can relax and chat.

There is a FamilyMart convenience store on the ground floor of La’gent Stay Sapporo Odori, accessible through a small door from the hotel lobby. This makes it convenient to buy snacks and drinks even at night.

Public Bath
Many newly opened hotels in Japan recently feature public baths. Although the water in these baths is not hot spring water, you can still experience Japanese bath culture by showering and soaking there. La’gent Stay Sapporo Odori has a public bath with a very traditional Japanese design. The public baths are located on the 3rd and 5th floors; the 3rd floor is for women, and the 5th floor is for men.

Since photography is not allowed inside the bath, here is a photo of the La’gent Stay Sapporo Odori bath from the Rakuten Travel website for your reference. The most distinctive feature of the bath is the超大 (very large) lantern hanging from the ceiling. Additionally, the floor is wooden but can feel quite slippery when wet.

Breakfast
The room I booked this time included breakfast. The meal was served at a restaurant on the second floor called Northern Kitchen. The restaurant has a stylish design, but the food was average—nothing special, but acceptable.

Hotel Parking
La’gent Stay Sapporo Odori has a partnership parking lot with D Parking. Self-driving tourists can park their cars here. The overnight parking fee for hotel guests is 1,800 yen. If you don’t need to park overnight, you can also pay an hourly rate of 300 yen. The parking lot entrance/exit is located on another street behind the hotel’s main entrance, with a passage connecting the hotel lobby to the parking lot entrance/exit.

Besides D Parking, there are many other parking lots near the hotel where you can park.

3. Rooms at La’gent Stay Sapporo Odori
La’gent Stay Sapporo Odori offers ten different room types, the most unique of which are two apartment-style rooms with small kitchens, as well as some Japanese-Western style rooms. However, we stayed in a standard Western-style room, the Superior Double Room, which has an area of 23 square meters and is quite spacious. In addition to a large 1.6 x 2 meter bed, the room also fits a set of sofa chairs.

Our room was located at the corner, offering a view of Tanukikoji from the window.

4. Summary of Stay at La’gent Stay Sapporo Odori
La’gent Stay Sapporo Odori is the second hotel I’ve stayed at in Tanukikoji, after the Richmond Hotel Sapporo Odori. Although its location is not as convenient as Richmond Hotel Sapporo Odori, the quality of La’gent Stay Sapporo Odori is better. Additionally, the hotel has a bathhouse and its own parking lot, offering superior facilities.
