【The Only Hotel Connected to Tenjin Chikagai】Fukuoka Solaria Nishitetsu Hotel
Tenjin is Fukuoka’s most popular shopping area, home to all the major department stores, most of which are linked by the Tenjin Chikagai. Whether it’s raining or scorching hot, you can comfortably shop here in any weather. For those who love shopping and bustling surroundings, staying in Tenjin is ideal. However, most hotels in Tenjin are located farther from the underground mall, making their locations less convenient. The only exception is the Fukuoka Solaria Nishitetsu Hotel, which sits right in the heart of Tenjin and is directly connected to Tenjin Chikagai.

1. Location of Solaria Nishitetsu Hotel
Solaria Plaza is one of the main shopping centers in Tenjin, located at the heart of the district. The Fukuoka Solaria Nishitetsu Hotel is situated above Solaria Plaza.

Kego Park, located next to Solaria Nishitetsu Hotel, is a large public square.

Watanabe-dori is the main road in Tenjin, with heavy traffic. However, Solaria Nishitetsu Hotel is not directly adjacent to it; it is separated by Fukuoka Mitsukoshi, so noise from the busy road is not an issue.

The basement of Watanabe-dori is Tenjin Chikagai, and the basements of most buildings along the road are connected to it, including Solaria Plaza.

To reach Tenjin Chikagai from Solaria Plaza, take the escalator down two floors from the ground level and follow the signs.

2. Transportation Around Solaria Nishitetsu Hotel
Solaria Nishitetsu Hotel is located midway between Tenjin Station (Fukuoka Subway Airport Line) and Tenjin-Minami Station (Nanakuma Line), both about a 4-5 minute walk away. Both stations are connected to Tenjin Chikagai, making the walk convenient. Additionally, Fukuoka Mitsukoshi, next to Solaria Plaza, is the terminal for Nishitetsu Railway and the Nishitetsu Tenjin Highway Bus Terminal, making it the most convenient option for traveling to places like Dazaifu.
To travel between Fukuoka Airport and Solaria Nishitetsu Hotel, you can take the subway or a bus. Although Tenjin Station is a bit farther from the hotel, the subway is recommended because the bus to the airport makes multiple stops and takes longer.

Initially unaware of the drawbacks of taking the bus to Fukuoka Airport, we assumed the bus terminal next to Solaria Nishitetsu Hotel would be more convenient. However, while Solaria Plaza and Fukuoka Mitsukoshi are connected on every floor, the differing floor heights mean there are steps between them, which can be inconvenient with large luggage. To reach the highway bus terminal on the third floor of Mitsukoshi, it’s best to go to the ground floor first and take the elevator.

Bus tickets can be purchased at self-service machines or the counter. Show your passport at the counter for a discount on tickets to Fukuoka Airport.

I had assumed the airport bus would be a large coach with luggage compartments, but it turned out to be a regular city bus with no dedicated space for luggage, which was quite inconvenient. Additionally, the “airport bus” is essentially a city bus that makes multiple stops before reaching the airport.

Whether taking the subway or bus, you’ll need to transfer to a free shuttle bus at Fukuoka Airport’s Domestic Terminal (next to the subway station) to reach the International Terminal.

3. Facilities and Environment of Solaria Nishitetsu Hotel
The lobby of Solaria Nishitetsu Hotel is located on the 6th floor of Solaria Plaza. Dedicated elevators from the ground floor of the mall take guests directly to the lobby and guest floors.

The hotel lobby occupies only a small portion of the 6th floor; the rest is part of the mall, so there’s also an entrance to the mall from the lobby.

4. Rooms at Solaria Nishitetsu Hotel
Solaria Nishitetsu Hotel is one of the older hotels in Fukuoka, so its room design and decor may not be as trendy, but it is well-maintained and doesn’t feel outdated. One advantage of older hotels is that the rooms tend to be more spacious, so if you dislike small rooms, Solaria Nishitetsu Hotel will definitely meet your expectations.

5. Summary of Stay at Solaria Nishitetsu Hotel
The prime location is the biggest advantage of Solaria Nishitetsu Hotel. As the only hotel located in the heart of Tenjin’s shopping district and directly connected to Tenjin Chikagai (Tenjin Underground Shopping Mall), this is a feature no other hotel can match. Additionally, Solaria Nishitetsu Hotel is quite convenient in terms of transportation. While it’s a few minutes away from the subway station, the distance isn’t far. However, perhaps due to this unique advantage, the hotel’s prices are relatively high. But for those who love bustling environments and shopping, it’s likely still worth it.
